FSL ~ Chapter 1

~Chapter 1~

The studying time in the morning quickly came to an end.

From the point of view of someone who used to be Japanese, after learning to read and write, it wouldn’t be a problem to study history, geography, and myths and legends.

When I was in Japan, I didn’t particularly like history, but much of the history of this world was interconnected with legends and had become stories. And legends were really interesting. It sees that in this world, there were many things happening that could actually be retraced back to Kami-sama.

Today, Otou-san was not at home, and Okaa-san left the house together with him.

Maa, though they were just at the town hall that could be seen from the window of the second floor of the estate.

Although we were a Viscount House, the territory itself was not big.

The territory had history, but there were not many local specialties, so there were no wealthy nobles here. That’s why there weren’t many servants either, so even if I were to secretly go down to the basement, I wouldn’t be found out.

「Hehehehehe」

Our estate had a secret.

This was the home of the noble who managed the village of the protagonist Eugene.

Maa, I was not related to them or anything. Father was originally a noble from the royal capital, but it seems that he had made various achievements and received this land along with the estate.

I wasn’t told the details. If I asked Okaa-san, she would tell me, but I feel like it wouldn’t be too thorough.

Nobles had the duty of giving jobs to the talented people living in their fief.

Allowing their territory to develop and protecting the lives of the people were the basic responsibilities of the lord, but it was also important to assign jobs to those among the people within the territory who had the aptitude.

This place was where Eugene was given the book about occupations and was taught how to fight.

In other words, this was where he went through the tutorial.

How fortunate it was for him to have been born here.

「It should be around here somewhere.」

There was an altar in the basement where the lord would give people the book. The other lords had them in their manors as well. At least, that was how it was in the game.

However, this was where the tutorial had taken place inside the game. In other words, everything should’ve been prepared already in order to train Eugene who had gotten his occupation. It was about 200 years ago, but the altar remained the same as it was long ago. It’s amazing that it had been preserved until now.

Maa, in any case, it was the 『Tutorial Dungeon』.

This place was where the protagonists Eugene took the first step to being a soldier, and Milfa a priest.

Not only were all the occupations explained to them, they could even choose whichever one they wanted.

That’s right. This was the place where you could get first-hand experience on all the occupations.

When I had played this as a game, Eugene was the protagonist, so he was a soldier, and at first, I thought that it would be good to have a healing item, so Milfa was a magician.

Soldiers first chose the weapon that they specialized in.

In order to become a magician. One had to select their attribute.

「There it is!」

The brick wall behind the altar.

There is a secret in that wall.

There is a brick near the pillar that seems like it could be removed and if you pushed it, a door would appear.

This brick gimmick was one of the ones used for the tutorial dungeon and it never gets old.

This part could not be skipped, and the lord at the time had explained it as he opened it, so I remembered.

It was like magic, though it probably was. Soundlessly, the white door appeared. Once you open it, there is a passageway that went straight ahead. And then there would be stairs.

Originally, it should’ve been pitch black, but this was already a dungeon, so the walls were slightly shining and the visibility was pretty good.

I held back from doing a happy dance and when I quickly descended down the stairs. I walked into a large open space.

It was like an empty sports field; the place was bare.

Each wall was decorated with the weapons belonging to the initial occupations that one could choose.

There were swords, shields, axes, spears, and knives for soldiers.

For magicians, there were grimoires, staffs, and knives. As well as elemental crystals in order to obtain their attributes.

Archers had long and short bows, knives, and various arrows.

Thieves would get a short bow, a bowgun, and a knife.

For priests, there would be one or two-handed staffs, a book of healing, and a book of protection.

You could choose what you liked from this array of equipment, and then the tutorial would begin.

Of course, it was also possible to change it when you obtained new weapons in future adventures. Or rather, you could repeat it and learn it by heart.

「Muhihihihi.」

Because the occupation selection was done somewhere else, service counters had been set up.

I went to one of them, the one where I could become a magician.

If I was a game protagonist, then I should’ve chosen to be a soldier who could use a sword, but this was, in the end, a fantasy world, and I wanted to use magic!

Originally, there would’ve been people here, but now, there was no one else. In the game, the receptionist would stand before you to explain the magician occupation, but they were not here, so there was nothing.

I went around the counter and looked inside.

There were about six books placed there.

It was『Magician’s Book』, the occupation book that would allow me to be a magician.

I was unable to suppress the satisfied smile on my lips, but there was no one around, so it wasn’t a problem.

I picked it up.

「I wonder how you use it.」

In the game, if you selected『Use』,『Would you like to become a magician?』would appear. However, this was not a game, so I did not know.

I sat down on the chair that was at the counter and opened the book after placing it on my lap.

Fumu fumu

It explained what a magician was.

The content was thin considering the thickness of the book. As I was thinking this while reading the book, I realized that the occupation would naturally become established. The book seemed to be glowing slightly as well.

The book detailed the origins of magicians and even mentioned a part of the legends that I had learned about during my studies.

I skimmed through the entire book, and then closed it. When I did so, the book of magicians lost its light…this too was sufficient as a fantasy phenomenon.

The book itself must be kept and not lost. After taking up a different occupation, I would need it to go back to it.

In any case, the mysterious feeling of somehow getting a job had transformed my confidence.

From now on, I was a『Magician』!
